WHAT IS AN UNREACHED PEOPLE GROUP (UPG) ?

A people group is a significantly large sociological grouping of individuals who perceive themselves to have common affinity with one another, either in the ethnic or social context. An Unreached People Group is a people group among which there is no indigenous community of believing Christians with adequate numbers and resources to evangelize their people group without requiring outside (cross-cultural) assistance. Therefore a group is considered reached if it has a viable, indigenous, self-producing church movement in its midst. This means a people group has strong churches pastored by their own people using their own language and these churches are actively evangelizing their people and planting daughter churches.
A group may be considered statistically 'reached' if it contains more than 5% adherents to any form of Christianity, including 2% adherents to evangelical Christianity. (AD2000 Movement)

WHY SHOULD WE PRAY FOR THE UNREACHED PEOPLES ?

• Salvation is found only in the Name of Christ (John 3:16, Mark 16:16). Numerous people groups in the world today have yet to even hear the Name of Jesus. As it is, thousands of souls among the unreached people go to a Christless eternity each day without hearing the Gospel.
• God desires for ALL peoples to come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Christ's commandment in MT 28:19 clearly requires the Church to "go and make disciples of all nations." The word 'nation' here is the Greek word 'ethnos' from which is derived the word 'ethnic'.God places such importance in the salvation of all ethnic peoples that Christ's second coming is linked to the completion of this task of reaching every people group (MT 24:14).
• Many unreached peoples live in countries that are hostile to all forms of Christian witness.
Others are hindered from hearing the Gospel due to religious strongholds and social barriers. Prayer is the key by which all barriers preventing them from receiving Christ may be removed.
• Western Christians in the past had fervently prayed and interceded for our unsaved ancestors. We as Asian believers are the fruit of these prayers. Likewise we now should intercede for the unreached people, many who do not have believers among them to even pray for them.

WHAT IS THE 10/40 WINDOW ?

The area of the world between latitudes 10E and 40E north of the equator covering North Africa, Middle East and Asia. In this region lies the world's areas of greatest physical and spiritual need, most of the world's least-reached peoples and most of the governments that oppose Christianity. Interestingly, this region is also the birthplace of the major world religions of Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism.
